Fiber Analysis SSHA

In the Fiber Analysis event, competitors will analyze a fiber sample to determine if the fiber is natural or synthetic based on microscopic and chemical analysis. They will justify their choice, in a written conclusion, based on their identified characteristics.
  • Guidelines and Scorecard

This event will give criminal justice students the opportunity to demonstrate and improve their ability to properly analyze and identify the characteristics of fiber as a form of evidence.

Objectives

  • Conduct microscopic examination and burn tests on the fibers.
  • Determine the characteristics of the unknown fiber sample.
  • Write a summary of their findings, detailing the specific characteristics that were identified and their determination of the fiber being natural or synthetic.
